The first edition of the workshop, Q-Turn 2018, that took place in Florianópolis, Brazil, was a success!

The survey collected at the end of the event showed that the percentage of women and gender minorities among participants was much higher than in typical quantum information workshops (There were 31,5% women, 2.7% non-binary or transgender, and 65.8% men among the respondents). Remarkably, a very similar ratio was observed among the contributed talks. A wide distribution of participants from international institutions in all continents was observed. The biggest representation per country was Brazil, followed by other countries in Latin America, showing that Q-turn succeeded in engaging with the local scientific community. Moreover, an example of successful scientific collaboration developed during Q-turn can be seen in the pre-print publication arXiv:1909.04001, which acknowledges Q-turn 2018 for travel support and a stimulating environment.
